Christmas Joy (x5) is a toccata brevis (brief toccata) based on "Joy to the World," written in 5/8 time (hence the x5 in the title). The forward drive of the 5/8 meter gives a sense of anticipation and joy. The composer's reflection on the anticipation, excitement and joy experienced at Christmastime during his childhood provided the inspiration for the toccata.
